Financial Assistance

We do not wish to see finances be an obstacle for anyone who wishes to fence. That's why we are a non-profit organization and why we keep our fees low. We are one of the most affordable fencing studios in the entire Pacific Northwest. We believe that this is good for Salem -- especially Salem's young people -- and good for fencing, as it allows more people to be involved.

All that said, a good value may not be affordable when you're just barely getting by financially. So, thanks to contributions from other fencers and friends of fencing, we are please to be able to offer assistance to financially needy students.

Currently, this takes three forms:

Tuition and user fees scholarships (PDF)
Tournament scholarships (contact Mr. Heggen)
Fencing equipment grants

Any fencer at the salle, including students signing up for first-time fencing classes, can apply for financial assistance. Please do not be embarrassed. Just ask, and we'll do what we can to help you out. You will have many opportunities to "repay" the assistance by helping out the fencing community.

If you are financially fortunate and would like to help support our efforts to make fencing available to anyone who is interested, please make a donation.

Better yet, consider making a regular monthly donation: $15/month helps sponsor a student in class, including equipment; $35/month pays a fencer's user fees and keeps the salle running. Ask Mr. Heggen about setting up a regular automatic donation on your credit card.
